Frequently asked questions

I order several Additional Volume Programs. Can I report results on these samples?

No, the Additional Volume Programs are to provide additional sample volume only. Results may not be reported on these samples.

I am testing TIBC, calculated, what program do I use?

If your laboratory is calculating a TIBC result by adding the iron result to the measured UIBC result, you will need to test samples with the prefix “CH” which are included in catalog #122 – Comprehensive Chemistry. If your laboratory is calculating a TIBC result using a transferrin based calculation, you will need to test samples with the prefix “IA” which are included in catalog #133 or #180 – Immunoassay.

What is the difference between Chemistry – Core and Chemistry – Miscellaneous?

Chemistry is such a large department of testing that API breaks this specialty into two event types. Our Chemistry – Core Events contain mostly CMS-regulated analytes and is shipped 3 times per year while the Chemistry – Miscellaneous Events contain non-CMS-regulated analytes and is shipped only 2 times per year.

My facility has changed whole blood glucose instruments; will my samples be compatible from my previous program enrollment?

Program 123/918 – POC Glucose A is compatible with most waived blood glucose meters. True Metrix Pro users should be enrolled in program 979 – POC Glucose B.
