API increases scholarship giving to medical laboratory science students.
After granting more than 75 scholarships to medical laboratory science students over the past 15 years, the American Proficiency Institute will increase the amount of its awards to rising college juniors and seniors this year. “The American Proficiency Institute (API) takes seriously the nation’s need for qualified medical laboratory scientists,” explained Sue Harmer, API President. “API will continue its tradition of
awarding outstanding students scholarship funds to help meet the future demands of the clinical laboratory.”
New API scholarships will grant $5,000 for each selected student. The competitive award garners hundreds of applicants each year. The scholarship cycle is open through April of each year, with an application for students and their medical laboratory science program directors to complete. Awards will be made in June.
“It is heartening to see the success of past API Scholarship recipients and their contributions to the clinical laboratory,” noted Harmer, a medical technologist. “Supporting the next generation of laboratorians is a responsibility we hold dearly.”
